Larry E. Williams, O.D.

Dr. Williams has been practicing optometry in Buckhannon for over 30 years. He received his Bachelor's degree from Morris Harvey College (now the University of Charleston), and his professional degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, in 1978. He opened his private practice on Main Street, Buckhannon, soon afterward. In 1984 he partnered with Dr. Jerry Black and Dr. Ron George to build and open the Buckhannon Eye Center at it's current location on Amalia Dr, right across from St. Joseph's Hospital. The Eye Center is a vital medical facility, with plenty of parking, an outpatient cataract surgical center, and a prime location adjacent to many other medical offices.

Dr. Williams values professionalism, friendliness, and state of the art equipment to assist in offering our patients the quality eye care they have come to expect in our office. The comment we hear all the time is, "I've never had an exam like THAT before!" Dr. Williams gives a very complete dilated examination to every patient. He treats glaucoma, eye injuries, and other medical conditions of the eye, as well as contact lens fittings, and traditional glasses prescriptions.

We continually update our practice with new technology and equipment to provide superior diagnostic care for our patients.   Our digital retinal camera documents and digitally saves detailed images of the back of the eye, and our Optical Coherence Tomography unit (OCT) is a sophisticated laser scanning device which makes a digital map of the retina. This test can effectively detect areas of the retina that are thinning or damaged, and can predict the onset of glaucoma.

Over the past 30 years Dr. Williams has had the honor of serving as an adjunct professor for SCO, hosting fourth year optometry students in his office. This experience assists the students in their preparation for their professional carrers in optometry, and the office as a whole truly enjoys getting to know these talented young people.

Dr. Williams has been married to his wife, Becky, for 35 years, and she works in the office as office manager and optician. They have two grown children, Shayna and Kevin, whom they are very proud of, and a wonderful son-in-law, Dr. Steven Ghareeb. Their two grandsons, Amos and William, are definitely their greatest passion! The Williams family loves to travel, golf, and cheer on the Mountaineers, and they are active members of Breath of God Worship.

               Our Staff

Becky has been an integral part of the practice for almost as long as the doctor has. She and Dr. Williams were married in 1979, shortly after he set up his practice in Buckhannon. Ever since then, they have accomplished the impossible - successfully working together in the same office!

She attended Eastern Kentucky University and Southern College of Optometry for the optometric technician program. (That's where the happy couple met.)  Becky is skilled in all areas of opticianry, especially in the selection and fitting of eyewear for each individual patient with regard to his or her preferences, lifestyle, and prescription requirements. Comfort and style go hand in hand and she enjoys guiding patients to the perfect fit.

In her spare time Becky likes watercolor painting, travel, Bible study, and spending time with family and friends.

Kim has been working here for more than 20 years, so she's "a fixture" at our office! She has seen us through office construction and remodels, computer acquisition and set up, insurance dilemmas, practice growth, student doctor orientations, and just about everything in between.

Kim started with us a a technician in 1988, then after several years, transitioned into the receptionist position. She greets patients with her constant smile and kind words, and is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure the patient is happy and has all their questions answered.

Kim is married and is very committed to her family. Also, many people are surprised to learn that she and her husband are avid hunters. She also enjoys biking, fishing, hiking, and camping. She is a Sunday School teacher and active member of the Hampton United Methodist Church.

Mary Ellen

Mary Ellen says she's "recycled"! She originally worked for Dr. Williams when he first came to Buckhannon in 1979. Her LPN license led her to eventually work for several MDs for many years. Then, just when she found some free time and "semi-retirement" she offered to fill in for us, and she's been with us ever since!

Mary Ellen is a great addition to our office because she offers us skill, experience, professionalism, an exceptional work ethic, and an even greater sense of humor. She is married to Steve, and has two adult boys, Brian and Bradley. They have a lovely log home where she likes to decorate, sew, and garden around her beautiful fish ponds in the summer.

Mary Ellen is an accomplished quilter, and teaches quilting classes in her spare time. She owns Lemon Twist Guilting, a small business which specializes in the customized long arm machine quilting and designing of customers' quilt tops.  She always has a smile and a funny story, and is a very valuable asset to our office.
